When I was 19, I dropped out of college so I could go home to help support my family. I have seven siblings, and my father was the sole breadwinner in the family because my mother has SLE. I was looking for a good job, and luckily, my sister’s friend told me about Amazon.
I started at Amazon in 2019 as a Picker, the role responsible for retrieving items from shelves and packing them up for shipment to customers. To be honest I was just here for a paycheck initially but it turned into a lot as I found new opportunities. Over the past three years, I’ve had four promotions. I moved on quickly, and I’m now an Operations Manager leading an 80-person fulfillment center in North Carolina.
One of my favorite parts of my job is helping my teams advance their careers like I have. I’ve always been a person who loves to learn and ask questions, so meeting all these new people and learning about their backgrounds, career goals, and who they are outside of work is a joy in my life.
I also love being part of a team that delivers what customers need when they need it. My friends and family always ask me how in the world we serve customers the way we do. I even ordered a belt on the day of the last flight, and got it two or three hours before I had to go to the airport – unbelievable!
Improving processes while increasing employee safety is the biggest challenge.
As I work my way up to a leadership role, one of the most challenging parts of my job has been figuring out how to continually improve safety and production quality. It is a huge responsibility to keep employees safe while also helping them grow and improve. In a perfect world, I would like all of my employees to advance to management positions someday, and new innovations from Amazon Robotics Help them succeed in their roles.
He was one of our biggest helpers A robot called Hercules. The robot can lift more than 1,000 pounds, and it moves products through the fulfillment center so employees don’t have to walk to retrieve products and move all orders. This is a huge help in improving our operations and safety, especially during busy times such as the holidays. Our team recently retired its first Hercules robot; We all signed the agreement and gave it a fitting “thank you” farewell for getting us through some of our busiest moments.
My team is really excited to see what comes next. Amazon recently announced two robots We’re particularly excited. One of these is the new Proteus robot, which will be the first to roam freely outside of restricted, fenced areas where our current automated driving units operate. This means that she will work alongside employees on new assignments at our facilities. For example, we currently have to move large, heavy carts to store packages on our outside docks, and the Proteus robot will be able to help us do that.

It can work in a way that promotes simple and safe interaction between technology and people – opening up a broader range of possible uses to help our people.
We’re also very excited bird, another new bot that will help us handle items in stock consolidation. We are currently working with a file A robotic arm called Robin This is able to capture packages, but the Sparrow will be able to capture individual products in stock, and that will be a great help to reduce repetitive work and free up time for my employees to focus on more engaging work.

The system is designed to handle millions of different products.
Introducing new bots is a great and important part of the job.
As we introduce new technology in our facility, two of our biggest focus will be safety and training. We need to make sure employees know how to work with bots, and it’s also important that they understand exactly how new technology can help them.
It’s really great to be a part of training my employees to work alongside the new robots, and the Amazon Robotics team is very involved in making sure that technology helps us provide service to customers. We have an engineer helping us, and Amazon Robotics Vice President Joe Quinlivan comments on trouble tickets himself to stay involved in the process. We get a lot of support, and it’s exciting to see all of these new things that will help us in our daily lives.
